  14. Pull up to the table and get ready to take on some of the toughest 
  15. poker players you've ever met! RUCKUS POKER recreates all the fun of 
  16. the popular card game, with four exciting poker variations. You've got 
  17. to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em, so be prepared 
  18. for hours of strategic entertainment!

  21. STARTING RUCKUS POKER
  22.  
  23. NOTE: Throughout this manual, we will tell you to "click on" different 
  24. cards or icons. Keyboard users can execute these functions by using 
  25. the arrow keys to move the cursor to the appropriate item and pressing 
  26. [ENTER].
  27.  
  28. When you boot up RUCKUS POKER you will see the title screen. Press [1] to 
  29. begin. You will then be asked for your name. Type it in and press [ENTER]. 
  30. If you have not played before, you will be told that the buy-in is $2000. 
  31. This is the amount of money you have to play with. If you have played before, 
  32. you will be told how much money you have from your latest game.

  34. Under "Choose Players" you have four options. Click on GAME DETAILS to see 
  35. some basic rules that apply to every game in RUCKUS POKER. 
  36.  
  37. Click on PICK PLAYERS to choose your opponents. The first character you 
  38. click on will be the dealer. Click on two more characters to get them into 
  39. the game. If you want the computer to choose your opponents, click on QUICK 
  40. SETUP. 
  41.  
  42. Pull down the "Player Bios" menu to see brief descriptions of the 
  43. other players. Click on TOP ROW to see the first four player bios, or 
  44. BOTTOM ROW to see the last four player bios.

  46. Pull down the "Choose Game" menu to pick a game. Click on GAME RULES to see 
  47. the rules for all four games. Click on 5-CARD STUD, 7-CARD STUD, HI CHICAGO, 
  48. or HOLD 'EM to play one of those games exclusively. Click on RANDOM PLAY to 
  49. have the computer randomly deal a different game every hand.

  51. Click on RESUME GAME under "Choose Players" to begin playing.

  61. THE RULES OF POKER
  62.  
  63. The object of poker is to assemble a hand of five cards forming the 
  64. most valuable combination possible--or, at least, a better hand than 
  65. any of the other players. Poker hands rank as follows, from most to 
  66. least valuable:

  68. Royal Flush     10, J, Q, K, A, all of the same suit
  69. Straight Flush  Five cards in a row (by rank), all of the same suit
  70. 4 of a Kind     Four cards of the same rank
  71. Full House      Three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank
  72. Flush           Five cards of the same suit
  73. Straight        Five cards in a row, of any suit
  74. 3 of a Kind     Three cards of the same rank
  75. Two pair        Two cards of one rank and two cards of another rank
  76. Pair            Two cards of the same rank

  81. RUCKUS POKER features four of the most popular poker varieties:
  82.  
  83. 5-Card Stud: Each player is dealt 1 card down (in the hole) and 4 
  84. cards up. Betting begins after the 2nd card.
  85.  
  86. 7-Card Stud: Each player is dealt 2 cards down, 4 cards up, and 1 
  87. card down. Betting begins after the 3rd card.
  88.  
  89. Hi Chicago: Same as 7-Card Stud, except the high spade in the hole 
  90. (down) wins half the pot. Betting begins after the 3rd card.

  92. Hold 'Em: Each player is dealt 2 cards down, then 5 cards to be used 
  93. by all players are dealt up. Betting begins after the 2nd card.

  101. RUCKUS POKER also includes a set of house rules that apply to all 
  102. four games. These are:
  103.  
  104. * The dealer is positioned at the far left corner.
  105. * The highest hand showing bets first, except in Hold 'Em.
  106. * In Hold 'Em, betting starts with the player to the dealer's left.
  107. * Any player may raise, but only three raises per round are allowed.
  108. * Aces are high but may be used to fill a low straight. (A-2-3-4-5).

  111. HOW TO PLAY
  112.  
  113. The window in the top left will show the names of each player and how 
  114. much money they have. The name of the game being played is 
  115. displayed in a panel along the top of the screen. 
  116.  
  117. Your position is at the lower left of the table. Before the deal each 
  118. player automatically antes up the minimum chip value into the pot. (As 
  119. a default, the minimum chip is $10.) Click on DEAL CARDS to begin.
  120.  
  121. When it's your turn to bet you have several options. If you are opening 
  122. the betting (because you have the best hand showing), you can BET; if 
  123. you are not opening, you can RAISE. If you decide to bet or raise, you 
  124. will have three denominations of chips to use. As a default, the white 
  125. chips are worth $10, the red chips are worth $20, and the green chips 
  126. are worth $100. Click on the amount you want to bet or raise.

  128. If you are not terribly confident in your hand but want to remain in the 
  129. game, you can do one of two things. If you are opening the betting, 
  130. you can CHECK; if you are not opening, you can CALL (that is, meet, but 
  131. not raise, the bet raised by a previous player).

  133. If your hand is starting to look hopeless, you should fold. Click on FOLD 
  134. and then click on YES to fold your hand.
  135.  
  136. To receive advice from the computer tutor, click on HELP. Click on MORE 
  137. to see more options. Click on STATS to see the probabilities of each 
  138. hand winning each game. Click on the game you want to see statistics 
  139. for. The computer will display Category, number of hands Won, 
  140. Number Seen, and Win % for every possible hand.

  142. Click on MENU to return to the Main Menu. Click on EXIT to return to the 
  143. betting menu.

  145. You can keep track of all the wagers by consulting the window at the 
  146. upper right. This shows how much money each player has bet so far on 
  147. the current hand. The letters below indicate what play each player has 
  148. made this round: b for bet, r for raise, √ [a checkmark] for check, 
  149. c for call, or f for fold.
  150.  
  151. Play continues like this until there are no more cards to be dealt. When 
  152. the last wager has been met, all cards are revealed and the dealer 
  153. announces the winning hand. Press any key, then click on DEAL CARDS to 
  154. start a new hand. To play a different game, click on GAMES and then 
  155. click on the new game you want to play.

  161. OPTIONS
  162.  
  163. Click on OPTIONS in the Main Menu to change some of the game 
  164. settings. Click on THOUGHTS ON to turn off the player comments (or 
  165. THOUGHTS OFF to turn them back on). Click on STATISTICS to see the 
  166. Statistics screens discussed above under "How to Play."
  167.  
  168. To change the values of the chips, click on BET VALUES. You have 5 
  169. choices: $1, $2, $10; $5, $10, $50; $10, $20, $100 (the default); 
  170. $25,$50, $250; or $50, $100, $500. Click on the set of values you want 
  171. to play with.

  173. Click on GAME SPEED to change the speed of the game. You can choose 
  174. FASTEST, FAST, MEDIUM, or SLOW. Click on the speed at which you want to 
  175. play. Click on OPTIONS MENU to return there.

  181. Click on MAIN MENU to leave the Options Menu. Now you can change 
  182. the players and decks. Click on PLAYERS/DECKS. Click on NEW DECK to 
  183. change the deck. Click on NEW DEALER, NEW PLAYER 2, or NEW PLAYER 3 to 
  184. change any of those. Then click on the name of the player you want to 
  185. replace the current player. Click on MAIN MENU to return there.

  187. To quit RUCKUS POKER, click on QUIT. Click on END PROGRAM to return 
  188. to DOS or PLAY GAME to resume play.
